Staff and Volunteers

Meet our staff and volunteers

Our team is dedicating to help your students receive the best education possible.

Founder

Dr Michael McClary

Commonwealth Christian Academy’s mission is to point children to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ, encourage spiritual growth, develop Christian character and morals, and promote sound academic achievement. In prayerful response to many requests of parents in the community, Commonwealth Christian Academy (CCA) was founded in 1997 by Dr. Michael D. McClary. Noting the secular mantra being generated by the public school system, CCA was established to provide a Biblically-based and Jesus Christ centered education as an alternative choice to all those families seeking the best for their children.

Administrator

Hannah Torres

having attended an A.C.E. school our Administrator is no stranger to the A.C.E. format. Hannah loves working with young people in a classroom setting, but also finds great joy ministering to students outside of school. She has been working in Children's Church for over 20 years and loves the interaction and challenge teaching brings. Family also plays a huge role in Hannah's life. She has 8 children ranging in age from 2 to 22. Her prayer and desire for the school is that each student that comes through the door would come to know the Lord Jesus Christ and grow in their everyday walk God.

Supervisor

Sherita Taylor

has served the Elementary students for 7 years. Upon enrolling her children in CCA, she was curious what they were learning and how. She volunteered at CCA. After learning the A.C.E. curriculum, she became a supervisor. God placed a burden on her heart,” And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children,…” She expresses, “ It is a blessing to serve the families who entrust their children to CCA.”

Supervisor

Zuri Truehart

has a degree in education and a background that includes teaching children. Zuri values its individualized learning that allows students to progress at their own pace in each subject and how it’s all grounded in a biblical worldview. It’s exciting to be part of a school that cares deeply about both academic and spiritual growth. She loves getting to know each student and seeing them grow in Christ.

Supervisor

Andre Truehart

started attending CCA in the eighth grade and graduated in 2020. He values many things that CCA has to offer. The emphasis on a Biblical world view and individualized learning separates CCA from other schools. Andre graduated from Commonwealth Baptist College with a Master’s Degree and he's super excited to be able to work at the same place that helped change his life!

Music Teacher

Michele Spaulding

has a love for music that is easy to see. Mrs. Michele Spaulding began teaching an 8th and 9th grade music class at CCA in February 2021. In the past 20 years she has taught vocal and instrumental music privately as well as at several Christian schools. This year she is teaching both elementary and high school music classes every Wednesday. When asked about her role at CCA, Mrs. Michele said “My heart is to train young people to be able to participate in the music at their local churches”.

Shop Teacher

Mark Adams

loves the opportunity to teach students woodworking and shop skills. The school has access to a woodshop where they are able to do wood working and other projects. Mark is a CCA volunteer and the local owner of Mark Adams and Associates, a realty company serving Richmond and the surrounding areas.

Math Tutor

Mr. Hummer

has been volunteering at the school for several years. With his presence at the school, students are able seek math help tailored to their individual needs. We appreciate all that he has done for the students of Commonwealth Christian!

Basketball Coach

Fundador Torres

is the basketball coach of our Wildcat team. He volunteers his time to coach and mentor the young men on the team in the ways of basketball and the Lord. Currently, he is the men's program director at Good Samaritan Ministries.
